Job Fair

Updated: Dec 27, 2020

A two meeting project that encourages the girls to explore some of their prospective career paths.

Learning Outcome: Explore future career paths by researching elements to different jobs as well as envisioning and setting future goals. Most importantly, expressing pride in personal choices and individual goals.

Materials:

  • Online means for the girls to do research (chrome books, etc.)

  • Paper for drafting

  • Poster Board for final project and presentation

  • Art Supplies!

Project Run-Time: 2 Meetings

Step #1 (Meeting 1):

Have each girl pick their dream job to research and delve into. The girls should begin researching their dream using chrome books or other means available to them with the following questions in mind:

  • What is your job?

  • Why did you want to do this job?

  • How does your job impact the world/your community?

  • How did you get this job (process)?

  • Where in the world do you work? Why?

  • What does a day in the life of your job look like?

  • What problems do you run into in your job?

Allow the girls paper to draft and write things down. When they're comfortable, they can begin transferring this information onto their poster-board. Encourage them to make it colorful and creative.

The first meeting should be devoted to research and project preparation.

Step #2 (Meeting 2):

The girls may need a little more time to tie up loose edges on their project at the beginning of the second meeting. After they have finished, set up a job fair! Break the club into two groups of girls. Everyone will set up their poster board in a science-fair-like format. One group will present while the other walks around. An alternative is a full-class presentation.

To add on to the girls job fair, we also invited guest speakers to come talk to the girls about their lives and professions as inspiring working women. The girls wrote down some questions to ask the women and engaged with them about their own dream jobs as well as asked questions.
