International Women's Day Project

Updated: Jan 3, 2021

An artsy project that builds on the amazing curriculum of https://www.internationalwomensday.com

Learning Outcome: Explore strong modern day and historical women through learning about International Women's Day as well as through the research of empowering women the girls are passionate about.

Materials:

Project Run-Time: 1 Meeting

Step #1:

Begin by introducing the girls to International Women's Day by reading through the "All About International Women's Day PDF". You can read through it together, print off individual copies, popcorn etc. Engage with the girls about their questions, the importance of International Women's Day, and what they're noticing and learning.

Step #2:

Introduce the Case Study sheets on individual women. Have the girls break off into small groups, pairs, or individually to read through one of the given case studies. This way, the girls can learn about a strong woman and become familiar with the case study format.

Once they have read through, encourage them to share a little bit about the woman they read with the group. This can be informal. This way, everyone can learn from each other about different inspiring women.

Step #3:

Now that the girls have an understanding of International Women's Day as well as some of the female leaders from the case studies, have them make their own! Encourage them to be creative, but to remain true to the format of the case studies they read earlier. Allow them computers or another means of research so that they can choose a woman to learn about.

Step #4:

Allow the girls to share! Who did they choose and why? What makes this woman a strong leader? What are some cool facts about her that they want to share with the group?
